I am a total BG beginner.. having discovered it about a month ago :)Based down in Kent so not as quite far south as Adam!
Oddly enough it was a Netflix show "A man on the inside" with Ted Danson which tweaked my interest. In one episode they are playing on this large ornate board/furniture and the question of "what is that game, I have seen it before - shall we have a go?" came up.
So currently I have a small travel sized board.. going down the rabbit hole of learning a bit of strategy - whilst the missus, well just plays and happily beats me 😀
I ended up here whilst browsing tournament sized boards... and lets be honest the boneclub logo gives me "Live and Let Die" vibes 💀 - (that and a handbuilt product in the UK is always something to be supported)
The boards are amazing.. and I am quite taken with the Tangerine Lennox... so hopefully that maybe on the cards for a future purchase.
So far - BG for dummies - which is actually not bad to start - though I am more interested in the opening plays / strategy at the moment - the chapters on doubling and when , pip counts etc are above me currently.
I have just received Opening concepts by Michihito Kageyama saw a YouTube video about it by the author - I like the idea of the proverbs as a way to think about the moves I am considering. So thats next to read and absorb…….
If you're new to the game, buying multiple Backgammon Books can be an expensive endeavour. Check out the following Website: www.bkgm.com This guy aggregates artcles from a variey of books and sources, then compiles them according to category. If you're just starting out, I'd recommend Jacoby/Crawford's article on Dice Probability: https://www.bkgm.com/books/JacobyCrawford/BasicProbability/
G’day from Down Under! I’m an ex-pat, ‘Saarf-Londoner’ that moved to Sydney in 2002.
In addition to being an addict of the game (for 35+ years), I’m an ANZ Backgammon Federation committee member, former Sydney Club Champion and event host.
As far as I’m concerned Backgammon's the ultimate game! The more people we can get on 'Board', the better. It’s your Roll….
Great to have you in the club Adam! Looks like Bone Club members have a place stay in Aus. now!!! It's deffo in my list of places to go, got to save a lot more pennies!!!
Looking forward to our chat re marketing Bone Club boards over there.
It would be great to get as many Australian and NZ bone club members as possible. Spread the word.
