Bone Club was founded by Guy Haslam in 2015 out of a passion for the game of Backgammon. Introduced to the game by his Mum aged seven, he has been playing for 45 years. Backgammon has had a huge revival in recent years and Guy wanted to introduce some of my friends to the game, from here Bone Club was born. Originally centred around a group of friends getting together over a few beers to part take in some friendly competition. Players in the original Bone Club ranged from novice to friends who have travelled the world playing the game on their faithful board. The name Bone Club comes from the fact that the dice and the boards used to be made from bone. The voodoo feel of the logo is a nod to the Shaman throwing bones to tell the future.
Guy's background is in design, web and graphic design and woodwork, running his own businesses since the age of 21. He is also keen furniture designer and maker, designing key pieces for friends and family. Guy graduated from MANCAT with a 1st in Furniture Restoration where he learnt a lot of his skills. Guy is also a keen magician, giving him a licence to create magical backgammon boards!
During a health scare Guy decided he would love to design and sell luxury boards. Using his passion and skills for design and his love for the game of backgammon he set about designing his perfect board. He tested, researched, tested again and perfected the board designs that have led to Bone Club’s range of boards.
Bone Club boards are edgy and stand out with a range of contemporary colours palettes. All materials are high end from the Italian locks to the deep grain Gambetta leather. Many beautiful timbers are selected including walnut, ’pale moon’ ebony, zebrano and Macassar ebony.
Bone Club boards add another level by designing the proportions of the board to use the golden ratio as much as possible. Shabaka, our most ambitious board to date uses the Fibonacci sequence for each thickness of the brass and ebony laminates. Creating a board that is a beautiful aesthetically as it is mathematically. It is this attention to detail that creates the magic in all Bone Club boards.
