How important are new Instagram followers?
A few days ago I was trying to remember when I became interested in certain topics, and surprisingly, my social media activity gave me a few clues, looking back at the accounts I had followed over time, I could almost see different phases of my interests developing, there was a period when I followed mostly business and technology pages, then later my attention shifted toward travel content and outdoor activities, It made me realize that new follows can sometimes tell a story about what catches our attention at a particular moment, of course, not every follow means something significant many are made out of curiosity and quickly forgotten, still, I wonder whether platforms and tools like recentlyfollowed can provide a useful snapshot of changing interests, or if people read too much into simple follow activity.
During a quiet evening I decided to declutter my social media because the feed felt overwhelming and I was tired of seeing random content all the time, I went on a bit of an unfollow spree and didn’t think much of it, but the next day I realized I had removed a couple of useful pages I actually relied on, I couldn’t remember their names, which made it more frustrating than I expected, while trying to figure out what I had changed recently, recentlyfollowed and it helped me trace back my recent activity, since then, I’ve slowed down and started being more intentional with every follow and unfollow.
